Alternative Instructional Methods

EICC alternative formats of instruction may include accelerated courses, synchronous distance education, asynchronous distance education, hybrid courses, self-paced instruction, and arranged study.

  • Accelerated Courses: Courses that can be completed in less than the normal 16 week time period, but have the same number of contact hours and the same requirement of out-of-class learning as regular courses.

  • Hybrid Courses: Courses or programs that combine traditional classroom and computer based instruction. In-class sessions are offered with online instructional activities to promote independent learning and reduce seat time.

  • Self-Paced Instruction: Instruction offered to students for a specific length of time to cover all course objectives to accommodate specific scheduling to program needs of students. Credit hours shall be awarded in accordance with the credit hours that would have been assigned if the course or program were taught by conventional methods.

  • Arranged Study: Instruction offered to students at times other than stated or scheduled class times to accommodate specific scheduling to program needs of students. Credit hours shall be awarded in accordance with the credit hours that would have been assigned if the course or program were taught by conventional methods.

  • Synchronous Distance Education Courses: Courses that contain instruction, learning, and assessment that occur at the same time, but not the same place.
