CSP 111 - Infection Control and Health Regulations

This course introduces basic patient care skills of infection control techniques. Additionally, the course provides an overview of the health industry as it relates to health and safety regulations based on Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines. The student will have hands-on experience at a designated clinical site in coordination with classroom learning.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Understand how infection and disease is spread.
  • Identify the differences between bacteria and viruses.
  • Understand how proper safety equipment can help prevent the spread of disease-causing microorganisms.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of health care regulations and the associated governing bodies.
  • Apply knowledge learned in the clinical setting about individual microorganisms to practice as a surgical technologist.
