SUR 107 - Introduction to Surgical Technology Credit(s) 7.00 Lecture Hours: 4.00 Lab Hours: 6.00 This course provides an introduction to the knowledge and skills required for surgical technologies; this includes: principles of sterile techniques, the operative care of the surgical patient, and the roles of scrubbing and circulating duties. Application of surgical fundamentals is demonstrated. Theory is correlated to practice by requiring students to participate as members of a surgical team in laboratory simulations.

SLOs: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the role of the surgical technologist.
- List the various organizations that regulate our practice in the surgical setting.
- Demonstrate how to perform basic skills needed in the operating room, including aseptic technique, scrubbing, gowning and gloving, gowning and gloving others, and opening sterile supplies.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the role of the surgical technologist when caring for all populations of surgical patients.
