Program Entrance
Students must apply for the program through the college website eicc.edu/apply. Students will be taking an advanced mathematics course within the program and will be required to have a minimum grade of a C- in Pre-Algebra or have a math placement score from ALEKS Math Placement to place you into the course within the program.
Program Registration
The sequence of courses in the program have been carefully planned to ensure the most effective and efficient presentation of curriculum. Program advisors will assist students in the following the curriculum and registering for the proper course sections. The registration must be approved by the program Advisor. The student must have no registration holds. Holds may be due to outstanding financial obligations to the college.
If a student does not continue to attend a course and fails to withdrawal from the course, the instructor will have no choice but to assign a failing grade. Please note that any grade in core or pre-requisite course that receives a grade below a C will need to be re-taken, this could affect the program plan and your progress in the program. Each semester has a last day to drop day indicated on the college academic calendar.
Students must complete the core courses within a three year time span due to the fact that healthcare policies and procedures change often and if it takes more than three years to complete the core courses the information you learned first may be obsolete and this will not benefit you when taking the national examination. Students who have not enrolled for three consecutive semesters may also run the risk of re-taking a previous course. These situations will be dealt with on a case by case basis.
All students within the program will be required to complete a health form, background check and have updated immunizations that are required by the college or any additional items that are required by your on-site Professional Practice Experience. Cost of the physical examination and vaccine updates will be the responsibility of the student, their insurance and provider.
Health Information Management Academic Requirements
Students are expected to achieve and maintain a cumulative 2.0 grade point average with the college. Students are expected to achieve a “C-” or in any Health Information Management course and any pre-requisite Science and Computer courses or they must retake that course before continuing the program. Courses in the curriculum are in a sequential manner with introductory material given as a foundation for advanced course work. For this reason, students who do not pass a prerequisite course must repeat that course before continuing in the curriculum.
Grading Scale
The grading scale used for all core HIM courses (this may include HIT-, HSC- and BIO- courses):

- 85 - 92% = B
- 77 - 84% = C
- Below a C Must Retake Core and Prerequisite Courses
- 70 - 76% = D
- 0 - 69% = F
