Distance Learning

eLearning

The EICC eLearning department provides instructional technology support for all faculty, students, and staff.  Training and support includes assistance with Canvas usage in all delivery modalities, use of streaming technologies, grade publishing, eTexts and other online resources, and a wealth of additional instructional technologies.

The eLearning staff offers assistance to all faculty and students engaged in distance technologies for teaching and learning. If you experience problems using features in Canvas, or with other technologies, contact the eLearning team at canvashelp@eicc.edu or 563-328-7693.

Find additional information about the eLearning department in the Canvas, Canvas Mentor-Trainer, and Dropout Detective tabs in this handbook.

Iowa Community College Online Consortium

EICC is charter member of the Iowa Community College Online Consortium (ICCOC). Online courses delivered via the consortium consist of two types:  restricted and shared:

  • Restricted - Online restricted classes are offered solely for EICC students. While supported by the consortium, students from partner institutions are not enrolled in these sections.

  • Shared - Online shared classes are offered via the seven-college consortium and may enroll students from any combination of the partner colleges.  These courses often provide access to students who may not have the same opportunities offered by their home college.

Fulltime faculty interested in teaching online must consult with their instructional dean. The dean sets the schedule based on instructional need.

History of the Consortium

In December of 1999, seven of Iowa’s community colleges formed a partnership and organized the Iowa Community College Online Consortium (ICCOC). Representatives from each partner college participated in a comprehensive planning process to design and implement the Consortium’s technical infrastructure as well as establish objectives, policies, and procedures.

The objectives of the ICCOC are to establish resources, train instructors, establish standards of quality, coordinate student services support, communication and implement an informational website. The ICCOC successfully completes these objectives through the commitment of all Consortium partners to provide quality online educational opportunities to students.

The ICCOC continues to assist our partner colleges in the delivery of quality online education to students all over the world.
