HIT 535 - Leadership Credit(s) 3.00 Lecture Hours: 3.00 This course provides an overview of supervision and management activities in a health information management department. Emphasis is placed on activities relating to planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and budgeting in a health information management department. Topics include leadership and organizational skills, human resources supervision and management principles and practices, and financial and strategic planning. This course replaces parts of HIT 440.
Prerequisite(s): A minimum grade of C- in HIT 415 , HIT 422 , and HIT 485 . SLOs: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Calculate statistics for healthcare operations.
- Demonstrate fundamental leadership skills.
- Identify the impact of organizational change.
- Identify human resource strategies for organizational best practices.
- Utilize data-driven performance improvement techniques for decision making.
- Utilize financial management processes.
- Examine behaviors that embrace cultural diversity.
- Identify processes of workforce training for healthcare organizations.
