Adult Educational Services

High School Equivalency (HSE) prepares you to earn a state-sanctioned high school credential. The program offers four options for earning an HSE diploma:
- HSE by examination: pass the standardized High School Equivalency Tests (HiSET) in the areas of math, science, reading, writing, and social studies.
- HSE by high school credit: demonstrate proficiency in subject areas through a review of your high school transcript. Then complete instructor-guided online courses in the subjects needed to complete HSE requirements. This option may benefit students with a minimal number of credits left to complete.
- HSE by post-secondary degree (domestic): If you didn’t finish high school but completed a post-secondary degree (associate’s degree or higher) with a regionally accredited institution of higher learning, you may submit your credentials to the Adult Education program for review. Upon review of these credentials, you may be retroactively awarded an HSE diploma with no additional coursework.
- HSE by post-secondary degree (foreign): If you didn’t finish high school but completed a post-secondary degree (associate’s degree or higher) with a foreign institution of higher learning, you may submit your credentials to the Adult Education program for review. Upon review of these credentials, you may be retroactively awarded an HSE diploma with no additional coursework. Credentials must be presented in their original form and, if necessary, accompanied by a certified English translation.
Coursework completed by HSE by Examination or HSE by High School Credit serves as preparation for entering college and/or the job market.
