ADI 285 - Cardiac Sonography IV

This course emphasizes the clinical applications of cardiac sonography pertaining to basic fetal and pediatric examinations and the diagnosis of congenital heart disease. Students will investigate various correlative modalities used to examine the heart including magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear medicine, computed tomography and cardiac catheterization. Review sessions in preparation for certification examinations will be provided.

Prerequisite(s): A minimum grade of C in ADI 210 ADI 275 , and ADI 813 .
SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Discuss common congenital cardiac anomalies encountered in the fetus and pediatric patient.

  • Describe the applications, techniques and protocol used to evaluate fetal and pediatric hearts.

  • Compare various correlative exams used in the diagnosis of both congenital and acquired cardiac disease.

  • Explain advanced imaging techniques employed for diagnosis of cardiac disease.

  • Appraise personal areas of strengths and weaknesses in content knowledge in preparation for certification examinations.
