ITP 256 - Interpreter Certification Preparation Credit(s) 2.00 Lecture Hours: 2.00 This course offers an overview of various interpreter tests used to obtain professional licensure in Iowa and Illinois. The process of obtaining licensure and maintaining certification and licensure will also be studied. Students will gain experience in interpreting skills evaluation to prepare for taking certification tests.
Prerequisite(s): ASL 296 and ITP 124 SLOs: Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

Explain structure, format, and requirements of the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf National Interpreter Certification (NIC) test.

Explain structure, format, and requirements of the Educational Interpreting Performance Assessment (EIPA).

Explain the structure, format, and requirements of the Illinois Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI).

Analyze interpreting performance in ASL to English practice and English to ASL practice.

Develop a professional development plan for preparing for certification and licensure as a sign language interpreter.

Compare sign language interpreter licensure laws in four to five states.
