Business Transfer Major, AA

Campus: Clinton, Muscatine, and Scott Community Colleges

Business graduates work in non-profits, government organizations, and large and small corporations around the world. The transfer major in business has been designed to provide a broad education with an emphasis in economics, technology, accounting, and law, as well as mathematics and the liberal arts/humanities. This program is for students interested in transferring to a four-year institution with a major in business or a related field.

Transfer Institutions: Iowa State University, State University of Iowa, Northern Iowa University, Clarke University, Iowa Wesleyan University, Mount Mercy University, St. Ambrose University, University of Dubuque, Upper Iowa University, and Western Illinois University. Some of these institutions may have additional requirements. Please see your advisor for more information.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Business Transfer Major program, students will be able to:

  1. Explain standard business terminology.
  2. Practice an awareness of ethical and social responsibilities to multi-cultural, team-oriented, rapidly changing business environments.
  3. Apply concepts to analyze data and form valid conclusions regarding the information.
  4. Articulate the interrelatedness of international and domestic businesses, societies, and governments.
  5. Demonstrate critical thinking skills through application of accepted business principles.
  6. Apply problem solving and decision-making skills to real world scenarios.
  7. Demonstrate the ability to apply business computer technology and applications.

Total will vary depending on Math that is completed.

Students choose electives according to their needs and interests and the requirements of their intended transfer college to complete the 62 credit hours required of an Associate of Arts degree. While electives generally are chosen from any Arts and Science course numbered above 100, a maximum of 4 credit hours in SDV courses and 16 credit hours in career technical courses may be applied toward an AA.
