The Registered Nurse (RN) works to promote health, prevent disease and help patients cope with illness.

Eastern Iowa Community Colleges Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program prepares students to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for Registered Nurses. See Professional Licensure for more information.

The Nursing program is accredited by the Iowa Board of Nursing.

In addition to the general admission requirements of the college, applicants to this program must meet specific program admission criteria. The application process and admission requirements for the Nursing programs can be found at www.eicc.edu/nursing.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Associate Degree Nursing program, students will be able to:

  1. Practice professional nursing behaviors incorporating personal responsibility and accountability for continued competence.
  2. Communicate professionally and effectively with the individual, support system, and members of the interdisciplinary health team.
  3. Integrate knowledge of the holistic needs of the individual to provide an individual centered assessment.
  4. Accept responsibility and accountability for professional behavior and the delivery of safe, quality nursing care.
  5. Facilitate biopsychosocial adaptation of persons through activities that promote, restore, and support an optimal state of health.
  6. Utilize the nursing process in professional practice to formulate evidenced-based clinical judgments and management decisions.
  7. Practice professional ethical standards as defined by the American Nurses Association.
  8. Manage health care for the individual using cost effective nursing strategies, quality improvement processes, and current technologies.
