AGV 170 - Veterinary Anesthesiology

This course involves the study of pharmacology, application of anesthetic agents, the physiological effects and means of monitoring them, principles and administration of inhalant anesthetics, and a broad overview of anesthetic protocol and care. Emphasis will be on anesthetic practical skills and anesthesia equipment.

Prerequisite(s): A minimum grade of C in AGV 134 , AGV 140 , AGV 232 , and AGV 248 
Corequisite(s): AGV 159

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Complete a patient preoperative evaluation.

  • Demonstrate how to provide general anesthesia.

  • Determine which anesthetic drugs are best suited for their patient.

  • Operate the anesthesia machine.

  • Analyze any equipment problems that may occur with the anesthesia machine.

  • Prepare for an anesthetic emergency.
