AGV 170 - Veterinary Anesthesiology

This course involves the study of pharmacology, application of anesthetic agents, the physiological effects and means of monitoring them, principles and administration of inhalant anesthetics, and a broad overview of anesthetic protocol and care. Emphasis will be on anesthetic practical skills and anesthesia equipment.

Prerequisite(s): A minimum grade of C in AGV 134, AGV 140, AGV 232, and AGV 248.
Corequisite(s): AGV 159

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Complete a patient preoperative evaluation.
Demonstrate how to provide general anesthesia.
Determine which anesthetic drugs are best suited for their patient.
Operate the anesthesia machine.
Analyze any equipment problems that may occur with the anesthesia machine.
Prepare for an anesthetic emergency.
