AGV 159 - Surgical Nursing

This course introduces students to the methods and mechanics of the sterilization process. The course covers the technician’s role in the surgery room as well as patient preparation, sterile techniques, surgical instrument identification, pack preparation, and surgical nursing care.

Prerequisite(s): A minimum grade of C in AGV 134, AGV 140, AGV 232, and AGV 248.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Explain their role as a veterinary surgical nurse and be able to perform specific duties related to such role.
Act as an advocate for the patient.
Perform patient preparation, sterile techniques, surgical instrument identification and care, pack preparation, postoperative surgical nursing care and client education.
