IND 200 - Mechanical Drives I

This course will teach students the fundamentals of mechanical drives by introducing the student to key fasteners, v-belts, chain drives, spur gear drives and multiple shaft drives in a mechanical drive systems used throughout the industry.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Interpret the hazards of electromechanical equipment.
  • Apply safe working practices.
  • Explain key fasteners.
  • Explain power transmissions and shafts.
  • Explain V-belt drives.
  • Explain chain drives.
  • Explain gear drives.
  • Describe synchronous belt drives.
  • Compare lubrication standards.
  • Compare coupling methods.
  • Demonstrate troubleshooting techniques used with power transmission systems.
  • Demonstrate proper maintenance procedures for power transmission systems.
