CIM 230 - Registry Organization and Operations II

Lecture Hours: 2.00
This course will cover follow-up methodology, confidentiality and ethical issues, identification of second primaries, recurrence of disease, spread of disease, and survival data. Physician, patient, and other follow-up resources and activities will be introduced. This course replaces CIM-240.

Corequisite(s): CIM 200  and CIM 210  
SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Explain the primary purpose of continued medical surveillance of cancer patients.
  • Track the course of patient disease and monitor new malignancies.
  • Track standard clinical treatments and assess outcomes.
  • Explain the importance of timely and accurate data on cancer patients.
  • Identify the resources available for cancer registrars in tracking cancer patients.
  • Describe cancer registry accreditation issues pertaining to required percentages of follow up rates, type of cases to be followed, classification of cancer cases as being delinquent in follow up, and classification of cancer cases as being lost to follow-up.
  • Comply with legal and ethical standards affecting the confidentiality of cancer patient information.
