PSY 150 - Positive Psychology Credit(s) 3.00 Lecture Hours: 3.00 This course explores the five key elements of positive psychology, the science of well-being and flourishing, as developed by Martin E. P. Seligman: positive emotions, engagement, meaning, accomplishment, and positive relationships. Students will examine the impact of a strengths-based perspective on personal flourishing and overall well-being. Additionally, the course will identify practical methods for applying these five dimensions of positive psychology to enhance individual and collective well-being.
SLOs: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Examine the development of positive psychology.
- Distinguish ways to flourish despite any negative elements in life.
- Identify methods for individuals to explore the five elements of positive psychology: positive emotions, engagement, life meaning, intrinsic accomplishment, and positive relationships.
- Analyze character strengths already possessed to further development towards flourishing.
- Apply methods of placing positive psychology elements into student lives.
- Identify methods to increase resilience to life challenges.
