SOC 220 - Sociology of Aging Credit(s) 3.00 Lecture Hours: 3.00 This course examines aging through four interconnected processes: chronological, biological, psychological, and social aging. It focuses on the psychological and societal changes affecting the elderly, including adaptations to shifts in relationships, social importance, retirement, finances, health, and institutionalization. The course also explores emotional, cognitive, and personality development in relation to death and the end-of-life process.
This course is cross listed as PSY 226.
Recommended and Non-Course Requisites: PSY 121 and SOC 110 SLOs: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Define national issues of aging in relation to life expectancy and aging as an extended developmental stage.

Compare cross-cultural expectations of both aging individuals and social responsibility to the aged.

Discover the typical aging process, including the social and psychological challenges through end of life process.
