SER 103 - Renewable Energy Site Assessment

This course examines the theoretical background, utilization of existing energy-potential databases, and on-site evaluation methodologies for determining the feasibility and actual siting of solar and wind technologies, both active and passive, but also consideration for fuels cells, geothermal and biomass sources. It also guides the student through multiple deployment methods for the installation of anemometers, pyranometers, and weather stations, as well as their integration with state-of -the-art data logging computer systems.

SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Identify basic principles and general practices of site assessment.

  • Identify the basic safety principles, practices, and personal protective equipment applicable for site assessments.

  • Examine the elements of wind and solar power generation and the basic scientific principles of how each is produced.

  • Recognize the variables to be considered in a solar and wind site assessment.

  • Identify trends, issues, and challenges of solar and wind site assessment.

  • Identify equipment and techniques used in solar and wind site assessment.
