RAD 850 - Radiation Protection and Biology Credit(s) 3.00 Lecture Hours: 3.00 This course explores the history and biological effects of ionizing radiation. Different methods of radiation measurement, detection and protection are discussed.
Prerequisite(s): A minimum grade of C in RAD 162 , RAD 183 , and RAD 240 . SLOs: Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

Apply knowledge of the use of radiation.

Proficiently familiarize the units of measure for amounts of radiation, exposure limits for ionizing radiation and radiation monitoring practices and devices.

Apply knowledge of cellular biology, the effects of radiation on the human body and the biological reasons for safety practices.

Develop knowledge of radiation safety regulations and the reasoning behind them.

Proficiently evaluate the impact of exposure to both the occupational worker and general public and recognize methods for reducing exposure.
