MFG 221 - CNC Milling Operator

This course will introduce students to Computer Numeric Control (CNC) milling centers in the manufacturing setting. Various projects will strengthen the student’s proper use and troubleshooting of this equipment.

Prerequisite(s):   and MFG 371  or with Instructor permission

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate how to safely operate a CNC milling center.
  • Demonstrate how to set work coordinate offsets and tool offsets on a CNC milling center.
  • Perform daily preventative maintenance on a CNC milling center.
  • Demonstrate how to load programs onto a CNC milling center.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the difference between tool number and pocket number.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how to program tools as “heavy” and “large”. 
  • Demonstrate how to write basic G&M code for a CNC milling center.
  • Troubleshoot and edit programs for CNC milling centers.
  • Demonstrate how to identify correct tools.
