ITP 129 - Deaf Studies Credit(s) 4.00 Lecture Hours: 4.00 This course introduces students to the American Deaf experience in the United States, including linguistics, sociology, audiology, and psychology. The course exposes students to the historical views of deafness and deaf education. Students will be made aware of the contributions and contemporary lives of deaf people in America.
Prerequisite(s): ENG 095 SLOs: Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

Demonstrate knowledge of the professional field of Deaf Studies.

Identify the structures of the human ear and the etiology of common dysfunctions of the ear.

Discuss an understanding of deaf history and deaf education.

Discuss sign languages as examples of world languages.

Identify contributions of notable deaf people to the Deaf community and the hearing world.
