HUM 136 - Humanities of the Renaissance

This course surveys the major cultural achievements and ideas of Western Civilization from the Renaissance through the 18th Century. Art, architecture, music, literature, and drama are presented as they reflect the world view of each historical era. This course satisfies a general education requirement in the Arts and Humanities Area.

SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify key aspects of humanities studies.

  • Analyze humanities artifacts to understand what they say about the human experience.

  • Compare and contrast cultural worldviews in a chronological framework.

  • Appraise the value of diversity in cultural worldviews.

  • Critique the development of the Western value of humanism, and humanism’s view of the worth, rights, and capabilities of the individual.
