HCR 851 - HVAC-R Industry Safety Credit(s) 2.00 Lecture Hours: 2.00 This course provides an introduction to the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) regulations that pertain to protecting workers from exposure to occupational hazards. Students concentrate on researching, interpreting, summarizing, and applying the OSHA regulations. Students are introduced to a proactive philosophy of company compliance with OSHA regulations with an emphasis on using specific approaches to provide a safe and healthful HVAC/R work environment. The course also provides the students with an industry approved 10 hour OSHA certificate.
SLOs: Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:-
Identify major safety issues and terms.

Evaluate an HVAC work area for safety issues with electricity, chemicals, site location, tools and cleanliness.

Recognize construction site dangers.

Identify sources of pertinent safety information including OSHA, fire protection laws, and protection agencies (EPA and NIOSH).

Complete the OSHA 10 Hour Safety course and receive an OSHA 10 Hour Construction Card.
