HCR 261 - HVAC Trade Skills II

This course covers all types of tools pertaining to, but not restricted to, the HVAC profession. Included with the introduction of the student to the tool is the proper usage of these tools. The student will learn how to manufacture sheet metal fittings with the tools available. Included with the hand tools will be the different power tools that are common with sheet metal shops everywhere.

SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify and work with a power sheet metal machine called a Pittsburgh machine
  • Identify and work with a sheet metal roller
  • Identify and work with an easy edger
  • Identify and work with a power snap lock machine
  • Identify and work with a standard sheet metal brake
  • Identify and work with a box and pan brake
  • Work safely with the hand and power sheet metal tools
  • List three crafts involved in air-conditioning installation
  • Identify three common types of duct system installations
  • Describe the installation of square or rectangular metal duct
  • Describe the installation of round metal duct
  • Describe the installation of flexible duct
  • Describe good installation practices for package air-conditioning equipment
  • Discuss different connections for package air-conditioning equipment
  • Describe the split air-conditioning system installation
  • Describe best practices for installing the condensing unit of a split air-conditioning system
  • Fabricate one sheet metal supply plenum
  • Fabricate one sheet metal plenum with evaporator coil
