EMS 816 - Pediatric Education for Prehospital Prof Credit(s) 1.00 Lecture Hours: 1.00 This course, Pediatric Education for the Pre-Hospital Provider (PEPP), is an intensive course designed to expand the students’ knowledge of Cardiac and Trauma Emergency Care for the pediatric patient. Participants will learn how to effectively assess and manage ill and injured children. This curriculum was developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics as a complete source of pre-hospital medical information for the emergent care of infants and children. Upon successful course completion, the student will receive an American Academy of Pediatrics PEPP Provider certification card for a four-year certification period.
SLOs: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate the skills necessary when performing a pediatric patient assessment.
- Demonstrate the skills necessary to identify life-threatening pediatric conditions.
- Demonstrate the skills to manage life-threatening situations
- Demonstrate the ability to provide care for a pediatric patient with shock, cardiac dysrhythmia, various medical emergencies, trauma and toxicological emergencies.
- Demonstrate the skills required to resuscitate a newly delivered infant.
- Demonstrate effective communication techniques when dealing with families of injured, ill or deceased children.
- Demonstrate the ability to recognize the child who has been the victim of maltreatment.
- Demonstrate the skills necessary to lead a team during a simulated pediatric emergency.
