EDU 255 - Technology in the Classroom

This course prepares students to facilitate learning in a technology-rich environment by using a variety of digital tools and Internet resources. Educational software and hardware, along with best practices in the use of tools and technologies for the classroom, will be discussed. Students will focus on the effective use of technology in learning environments, with special attention to instructional practice, assessment development, and student engagement. Students will discover, explore, evaluate, and implement the use of technology resources focusing on current trends in the classroom. Students will develop a professional digital portfolio designed to showcase personal technology and educational skills, as well as their reflections on effective teaching. 

SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Explain social, legal, ethical, and human issues surrounding the use of technology on PK-12 schools.

  • Plan, design, and implement technological concepts to improve learning environments and experiences for and of students, including students with special and/or diverse needs.

  • Demonstrate appropriate methods and strategies for evaluating and applying technology to plan and implement curriculum to maximize student learning.

  • Apply technology to facilitate effective assessment and evaluation strategies.

  • Explain how to use technology to enhance their productivity and professional practices in education.
