EDU 125 - Making a Difference

This course is introducing the student to the careers related to education, particularly teacher and para-educator as professionals. The course includes: human and legal rights of children with disabilities; introduction to human development; introduction to the classroom instruction process; discussion of instructional interventions as well as teaching strategies; and health and safety procedures in the classroom.

SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Analyze the relationship between the teacher and para-educator. 
  • Define the human and legal rights of children with disabilities and their families.
  • Explain the basic processes of human development, especially in students ages 5-18.
  • Summarize the importance of Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) and student assessment.
  • Plan instructional interventions and strategies. 
  • Demonstrate the use of essential technology in the classroom.
  • Discuss diversity issues in the classroom. 
  • Implement anti-bias curriculum and classroom design strategies.
  • Identify school health, safety and emergency policies.
