This course is introducing the student to the careers related to education, particularly teacher and para-educator as professionals. The course includes: human and legal rights of children with disabilities; introduction to human development; introduction to the classroom instruction process; discussion of instructional interventions as well as teaching strategies; and health and safety procedures in the classroom.

SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Analyze the relationship between the teacher and para-educator.
Define the human and legal rights of children with disabilities and their families.
Explain the basic processes of human development, especially in students ages 5-18.
Summarize the importance of Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) and student assessment.
Plan instructional interventions and strategies.
Demonstrate the use of essential technology in the classroom.
Discuss diversity issues in the classroom.
Implement anti-bias curriculum and classroom design strategies.
Identify school health, safety and emergency policies.
