EDU 125 - Making a Difference Credit(s) 3.00 Lecture Hours: 3.00 This course is introducing the student to the careers related to education, particularly teacher and para-educator as professionals. The course includes: human and legal rights of children with disabilities; introduction to human development; introduction to the classroom instruction process; discussion of instructional interventions as well as teaching strategies; and health and safety procedures in the classroom.
SLOs: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Analyze the relationship between the teacher and para-educator.
- Define the human and legal rights of children with disabilities and their families.
- Explain the basic processes of human development, especially in students ages 5-18.
- Summarize the importance of Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) and student assessment.
- Plan instructional interventions and strategies.
- Demonstrate the use of essential technology in the classroom.
- Discuss diversity issues in the classroom.
- Implement anti-bias curriculum and classroom design strategies.
- Identify school health, safety and emergency policies.
