DSL 103 - Survey of Diesel Technology Credit(s) 1.50 Lab Hours: 4.50 This course is designed to introduce the student to a variety of tasks and skills commonly used in the diesel technology repair field. Diesel engine repair and maintenance, as well as automatic transmission operation and service will be discussed and practiced.
SLOs: Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:-
Demonstrate knowledge for each area below:

DIESEL ENGINE REPAIR

General engine diagnosis and removing and replacing engine.

Cylinder head and valve train diagnosis and repair.

Engine block diagnosis and repair.

Start and run engine.

Check oil pressure and inspect for leaks.

Lubrication systems diagnosis and repair.

Perform oil and filter change.

HEAVY DUTY AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS

Describe the power flow through planetary gear sets.

Disassemble and reassemble an automatic transmission.
-
Describe operation of hydraulic valve and devices.
-
Discuss removal and reinstallation of a transmission.
