CON 170 - Building Construction Techniques I

Lab Hours: 8.00
This course provides exposure and real-world practice of many of the phases of residential construction. A student on this course will experience all phases of framing, roofing, window and door installation, and soffit work. Students will also learn about exterior decks and flat concrete. The student will learn to work in a safe manner by adhering to OSHA 10 training and workplace safety lessons. 

SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of safety procedures and practices through OSHA 10 training and workplace safety assessments and specific construction applications.
  • Administer construction techniques and building codes for all aspects of framing, including aspects of decking.
  • Demonstrate how to properly install windows and doors.
  • Demonstrate how to install roofing products.
  • Identify the components of a venting soffit system and how to install it. 
  • Demonstrate the concrete pouring process.
  • Collaborate with others to become an effective member of a productive team.
  • Execute a high standard of quality in all practices.
  • Interpret simple information on a set of construction blueprints.
