This course is the second in a sequence of two general chemistry courses for students in pre-med, pre-chiro, pre-vet, pre-dental, pre-pharmacy, pre-engineering, other physical or biological sciences, or liberal arts. Topics include kinetics, equilibrium, acid-base, ionic equilibria, intermolecular forces, thermodynamics, electrochemistry, organic chemistry, descriptive chemistry and nuclear chemistry. This course may satisfy a general education requirement in the Natural Sciences Area.

Prerequisite(s): CHM 165 or CHM 166

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Explain basic terms, concepts, processes and systems in general chemistry.
Explain how atomic electronic structure determines chemical bonding.
Explain how chemical structure determines compound properties particular to general chemistry.
Solve quantitative general chemistry problems.
Demonstrate effective laboratory skills in the use and handling of chemical equipment and compounds.
