BIO 186 - Microbiology

This course is an in-depth examination of the microbial world, with emphasis on classification, reproduction, genetics, physiology, infectious disease, and control. Laboratory exercises will be directed toward the use of equipment and identification of clinically and economically important organisms. This course may satisfy a general education requirement in the Natural Sciences Area.

Prerequisite(s): BIO 114  or BIO 168

Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of the main principles of microbiology.

  • Demonstrate laboratory techniques utilized in the field of microbiology.

  • Use critical thinking to evaluate scientific information to make informed decisions.
