BCA 250 - Desktop Publishing Credit(s) 3.00 Lecture Hours: 2.00 Lab Hours: 2.00 This course takes the student beyond the basic level computing commands while gaining knowledge and practice in desktop publishing by integrating both graphics and text. The student will learn advanced features of publishing software, such as creating and applying styles, macros, and master documents. Decision making skills will be used to complete desktop publishing projects, such as letterheads, business cards, flyers, newsletters, brochures and certificates.
SLOs: Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Evaluate design elements in a desktop published format for the appropriate use of focus, balance, proportion, contrast, directional flow, consistency, color and page layout.
- Produce internal business documents such as memos, agendas, press releases, and fax cover sheets with a variety of typefaces, type styles and special symbols.
- Produce business letters, envelopes, and business cards using a variety of templates, fonts, rued lines, and automatic features.
- Create resumes, calendars, personal address labels, and certificates using a variety of graphic forms.
- Produce promotional documents such as flyers and announcements using Microsoft Draw and WordArt along with rules, borders, shading, shapes, pictures, and watermarks.
- Create brochures using a variety of formats, design elements, and creation techniques, tags, business greeting cards, and indentations using AutoText, WordArt, labels and Mail Merge Helper.
- Create newsletters using Publisher templates and create your own designs based on desktop publishing concepts
