MAT 138 - College Algebra with Limits

This course will prepare students for future study in mathematics. Topics include solving equations and inequalities, complex numbers, polynomial, rational, absolute value, and exponential and logarithmic functions, systems of equations, matrices, sequences and series, permutations and combinations, the binomial theorem, and limits. This course may satisfy a general education requirement in the Mathematics Area.

Prerequisite(s): A minimum grade of C- in   or minimum math placement score based on college assessment within the last two years. Immediate prerequisite course must have been completed within the last two years. 
SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Solve equations and applications involving linear, radical, quadratic, rational, exponential, and logarithmic functions.
  • Graph linear, quadratic, rational, radical, exponential, logarithmic, and piecewise functions.
  • Solve applications involving systems of linear equations.
  • Determine the limit of a function, including one-sided limits, and limits involving infinity.
