PNN 154 - Health Concepts I Credit(s) 10.00 Lecture Hours: 8.00 Lab Hours: 2.00 Clinical Hours: 3.00 This course introduces the concepts within the three domains of the healthcare recipient, health and illness, and professional nursing in healthcare. Emphasis is placed on the concepts within each domain including culture, spirituality, fluid and electrolytes, acid base, sleep, glucose regulation, nutrition, elimination, perfusion, gas exchange, immunity, inflammation, infection, promotion, communication, collaboration, safety, grief and loss, cognition, patient assessment and care giving.
Prerequisite(s): 75 hour state approved Certified Nurse Aid Curriculum OR
Active in the Iowa Direct Worker Registry
Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation Healthcare Provider Level with skills
Minimum grade of C or higher in the following: , , and SLOs: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Relate to the individual as a holistic, complex, multidimensional, unique and significant being.
- Translate knowledge of health and illness concepts to safely and ethically administer therapeutic nursing care to individuals.
- Apply foundational principles of professional nursing practice to provide safe, culturally competent, therapeutic care for individuals.
