ADI 324 - Abdominal Sonography II

This course is a continuation of ADI 321 and covers anatomy and physiology and common pathologies of select abdominal organs as well as various superficial structures. Scanning protocols and normal versus abnormal sonographic findings associated with each procedure are studied. Emphasis is also placed on the acquisition of pertinent clinical history and physical findings,  and the evaluation of laboratory and related imaging reports. This course replaces ADI 326.

Prerequisite(s): A minimum grade of C in ADI 111 ADI 321 , and ADI 830 .
SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Describe appropriate patient preparation for imaging selected abdominal and superficial structures.

  • Obtain a complete patient history including results of pertinent laboratory tests and medical imaging procedures.

  • Utilize appropriate equipment selection and protocol to produce diagnostic images of the anatomic area of interest.

  • Identify normal anatomy, sonographic landmarks, and vasculature as they appear on sonographic images.

  • Distinguish anatomical variation and common pathologies as demonstrated on sonographic images.
