ENG 095 - ALP Writing

This course is a co-requisite course designed to support skills necessary for successful completion of ENG 105   or ENG 107  , using an Accelerated Learning Program model. The writing process, critical thinking and reading skills, and strategies to enhance student success are emphasized. In this class, students will practice writing skills learned in ENG105 or ENG107 and work closely with the instructor to develop increased confidence and writing proficiency.

Corequisite(s): ENG 105  or ENG 107  
SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Use the steps in the writing process and demonstrate an understanding of their own writing process.

  • Reflect upon their own compositions, using peer and instructor feedback generatively.

  • Assess strengths of their own compositions and composing techniques.

  • Demonstrate various organizational strategies in a composition.

  • Engage critically with texts using active reading strategies and annotation.

  • Demonstrate control of grammar, mechanics, sentence structure, and paragraph structure within the context of the essay.

  • Demonstrate use of technology for reading, composing, and accessing texts.

  • Connect writing skills to relevance beyond classroom, including other college classes and the professional world.

  • Determine how to use academic and support resources.
