PSY 236 - Psychology of Personality

This course provides an in-depth study of concepts related to personality development, description, assessment, and special problems. Emphasis is given to the fields of psychoanalytic, behavioral, self-actualization, and existentialism.

SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Define key terms, concepts, and issues relating to personality development throughout the lifespan.

  • Describe major influences on how we develop and maintain our personality.

  • Discuss the various ways in which personality is measured and evaluated.

  • Compare and contrast how the major theoretical perspectives contribute to the understanding of personality.

  • Evaluate the merits of design, methodology, and ethics in personality studies and surveys.

  • Describe how nature and nurture interact to influence our personality.

  • Explain the great diversity, uniqueness, and similarity expressed in personality traits and characteristics.
