MKT 160 - Principles of Retailing Credit(s) 3.00 Lecture Hours: 3.00 This course presents the character and significance of retailing in our economy. It examines the principles and applications of strategic planning in retail areas such as ownership, organization, consumer behavior, trading area, merchandise planning and financial management.
SLOs: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Demonstrate an understanding of the multi-facets involved in retail planning.

Demonstrate knowledge of a retailing vocabulary.

Demonstrate an understanding of the environmental factors that influence retailing today such as, the behavior of customers, competitors, and channels, as well as legal and ethical behavior.

Demonstrate an understanding of the role that location plays in a retailer’s success.

Demonstrate an understanding of merchandise buying and handling, pricing, promotion and advertising, personal, selling, store layout and design.

Demonstrate an understanding about managing people - both customers and employees.
