This course provides a detailed study of operations management in the supply chain, emphasizing the need to achieve the highest level of service and product quality while keeping cost as low as possible. The major areas covered include reducing the cost of supply chain processes, integration and collaboration with customers and suppliers, sustainability, and minimizing the long-term cost of products and processes. Globalization and its impact on global customers, suppliers, and supply chains will also be covered.

SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Define operations management.
  • Explain the value of viewing operations management from a process and supply chain perspective.
  • Identify the key themes of operation strategy, product design to support the strategy, and strategic capacity.
  • Explain how manufacturing and service systems are organized.
  • Examine the processes that source material for internal operations and then distribute to customers.
  • Utilize the techniques typically implemented in Enterprise Resource Planning Systems (ERP).
  • Integrate workplace skills to include improved communication skills.
