MGT 261 - Principles of Transportation Management Credit(s) 3.00 Lecture Hours: 3.00 This course studies the fundamental roles and importance of transportation in companies and society. The course evaluates the complex environment in which transportation services are provided and explores strategies for adapting to a fast-paced and rapidly changing industry. Specific tools include overview of transportation, the supply chain, the economy, traditional modes of transportation, special carriers, global transportation, economic operating characteristics of each mode, costing, pricing, carrier strategy, and information management.
SLOs: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe the role of transportation in logistics and supply chain.
- Explain in detail the basic modes of transportation.
- Explain the regulatory impact, trends, and challenges in the transportation industry within the U.S. and internationally.
- Enumerate the elements of transportation management.
- Explain the cost and pricing model in transportation.
- Explain the relationship between information management, technology and transportation.
- Integrate workplace skills to include improved communication skills.
