MGT 101 - Principles of Management

This course is designed to explain the history and development of management theory and practice. Behavioral and scientific schools of management philosophy are examined. Components of organizations and how they must be integrated at all levels in an organization in order to produce an effective system are presented.

SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the classical schools of management.
  • Explain the management process.
  • Summarize the types and styles of the management decision-making models.
  • Categorize the planning, organizing, and controlling functions.
  • Contrast leadership and management.
  • Classify the major theories of motivation.
  • Apply break-even analysis, payoff matrix, economic order quantity (EOQ), project evaluation review technique and critical path method (PERT/CPM), and materials requirements planning-capacities requirements planning (MRP-CRP) techniques.
