GLS 120 - Education Experience Abroad

Lecture Hours: 1.00 - 3.00
This course provides a structured short-term study experience in a foreign country, preceded by preparatory study and followed by project completion after return from travel. Exploration of world historic sites, cultural features and geography, combined with reading from applicable sources, will enable the student to draw conclusions about the significance of individual events in a context of a culture/civilization. This course may be repeated for additional credit. This course may satisfy a general education requirement in the Cultural/Historical Perspectives Area.

SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Describe the impact of physical and cultural geography on the region visited.

  • Compare and contrast present political systems in the region visited with those in one other region.

  • Provide examples of the impact of some historical events in the region visited.

  • Summarize current information on values and culture in the region visited.

  • Synthesize information from the readings/activities with their experiences and present this in written or project form.
