ENG 221 - Creative Writing Credit(s) 3.00 Lecture Hours: 3.00 This course is an advanced writing workshop, covering at least two of the major genres (fiction, poetry, drama, creative non-fiction). Emphasis is placed on elements of craft-including tone, voice, perspective and setting-as well as practices required to be a successful writer, including drafting, revision, and the establishment of a writing routine. The learning experienced is enhanced through class discussion and critical analysis of published authors as well as workshops of student writing.
SLOs: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Generate writing in at least two of the following genres: fiction, poetry, drama, creative non-fiction.
- Explain elements of the craft of writing, including tone, voice, perspective and setting.
- Demonstrate the practices of a successful writer, including drafting, revision, and the establishment of a writing routine.
- Critique peer writing in a workshop setting.
- Revise work in response to peer and instructor feedback
