ADI 808 - Cardiac Sonography Clinical Education II

Clinical Hours: 18.00
This course provides the student with four days per week of clinical experience in affiliate hospitals, clinics, and/or imaging centers. Students will continue to gain hands-on scanning experience on a variety of cardiac sonographic procedures under direct supervision of a staff sonographer. Emphasis will be placed on ergonomic safety, gaining proficiency in a variety of imaging techniques and protocols, as well as identification of normal and abnormal anatomy and pattern recognition. In addition, students will be required to perform select basic imaging and technical competencies.

Prerequisite(s): A minimum grade of C in ADI 111 ADI 256 ADI 260 , and ADI 803 
SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a more advanced understanding of the role and responsibilities of a diagnostic cardiac sonographer as a member of the healthcare team.

  • Provide appropriate instruction, preparation, and care before, during, and after cardiac sonographic procedures.

  • Perform both basic and more advanced cardiac sonographic procedures according to the affiliate sites established protocol.

  • Apply knowledge gained during the previous semester effectively and safely.

  • Adjust technical operating factors and scanning techniques to achieve optimum results.

  • Document image data to assure adequate demonstration of anatomy of interest.

  • Work toward completion of clinical competencies as outlined in the student handbook.
