ADI 349 - Vascular Technology

Credit(s) 5.00
Lecture Hours: 5.00
This course will introduce students to basic vascular anatomy, hemodynamics and the use of sonography in evaluation of the vascular system. Clinical applications with regards to pathophysiology, patient signs and symptoms and findings related to common types of vascular disease will be presented. Emphasis will also be placed on the concepts essential to the performance and interpretation of vascular exams.

Prerequisite(s): A minimum grade of C in ADI 345 ADI 346 , and ADI 860
SLOs:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify normal venous and arterial anatomy as well as anatomical variations.

  • Recall the various physiologic factors that govern blood flow.

  • Explain the hemodynamic consequences of disease on the vascular system.

  • Obtain a complete patient history and physical assessment.

  • Correlate relevant laboratory, medical imaging, and surgical procedure results to appropriately prepare the patient for the desired vascular examination.

  • Select appropriate equipment and protocol to complete the requested vascular examination.

  • Recognize both normal and abnormal flow patterns from spectral waveforms, color/power Doppler information, and quantitative measurements.

  • Summarize current treatment options available for venous and arterial disease.

  • Explain the methodology and importance of quality assurance/test validation.
