Paul B. Sharar Foundation
The Paul B. Sharer Foundation supports Clinton Community College (CCC) students, programs, faculty, and staff. The 23-member board encourages, receives, and administers all contributions.
The Foundation awards more than 160 scholarships annually, and all students are encouraged to apply. Scholarships are awarded for Fall and Spring terms, and application deadlines are March 1 and Nov. 1.
The Foundation also provides high school equivalency awards; supports programs including RISE and Phi Theta Kappa Fund-A-Scholar; helps fund facility renovations and equipment upgrades; and supports staff development and continuing education.
The Community
Clinton is a community of about 25,000 residents who enjoy its location on the Mississippi River. The city holds the world-class Bickelhaupt Arboretum and many other recreational facilities including five parks, swimming pools, riverfront beaches, and nearby lakes. Residents also enjoy several softball diamonds, tennis courts, and a modern baseball park.
Clinton’s public library has two locations, and the fine arts are well-represented through the River City Municipal Band, Clinton Symphony Orchestra Association, Clinton Showboat professional theatre, Gateway Contemporary Ballet, and Clinton Art Association.
The College
The CCC campus is located in the heart of the city. Founded in 1946 to serve World War II veterans, the college has since expanded. It offers Arts and Sciences transfer programs and Career and Technical Education programs. In Fiscal 2024, it served more than 2,400 students and thousands more through Continuing Education programs.
In addition to the campus, CCC provides programs and classes at the Maquoketa Center, Clinton Career Advancement Center, DeWitt Career Advancement Center, and the Bickelhaupt Arboretum.
While many students enroll directly out of high school, the average age is 23. More than 84% of all students attend classes part-time.
CCC Alumni Association
CCC’s Alumni Association is an active organization that celebrates graduates and all they achieve, and supports the goals and dreams of current students. Membership is open to all CCC alumni and friends.
The Association hosts annual events such as the Student Leader Luncheon and the Outstanding Awards, which honor CCC’s outstanding supporters. In addition, members support four scholarships for students ranging from $200 to a full-time Alumni Honor Scholarship.
About 80% of CCC graduates continue to live and work in Iowa, and another 10% in nearby Illinois communities including Fulton, Savanna, Thomson, and Morrison.
Contact the Alumni Association for more information or to join.
Student Activities
There are so many opportunities to get involved, make a difference, and build your skills outside of the classroom at CCC. Here’s a list of campus clubs active in 2024-25:
- Athletic Club: Stay active, get involved! Whether you’re into running, lifting, or just enjoying a game of pickleball, we’ve got something for everyone. Members have access to a local fitness center and participate in various activities. The running group trains for events like the B-rrry Scurry, while the lifting group preps for competitions. Prefer team sports? Jump into a local pickup game of basketball.
- Gaming Guild: Enjoy some friendly competition. We host open gaming nights twice a month and special events throughout the semester. If you are interested in tabletop gaming, or roleplaying games such as Dungeons and Dragons, the Gaming Club is perfect for you.
- LGBTQ+ Club: We work to create a safe, welcoming, and accepting environment for all students, inclusive of all sexual orientations and gender identities. If you’re interested, please join.
- Nursing Club: If you’re a pre-nursing freshman or sophomore, here’s a chance to get to know your peers and future profession. We organize meetings, attend conferences, workshops, and take field trips related to nursing and health care.
- Phi Theta Kappa (PTK): PTK is the International Honor Society for two-year colleges. Complete at least 12 credit hours and achieve a 3.5 GPA or higher, and you’ll be invited to join. Members can apply for a PTK transfer scholarship and enjoy some intellectual and personal development through programs focused on scholarship, leadership, service, and fellowship.
- Peer Tutoring: This is a great way to connect with your peers and help them succeed academically.
- RISE: Retention Initiative with Support & Encouragement, or RISE, encourages and supports students as they achieve their personal, professional, and academic goals.
- Student Ambassadors: Be a leader on campus and in our community. Be a Student Ambassador. Start as early as your first semester. You guide campus tours, assist with college marketing activities, and develop your leadership and public speaking skills.
- Student Senate: Make a difference as a member of Student Senate. Help plan, coordinate, and direct events and activities throughout the year. Our active organization provides students with positive and fun experiences on and off campus. Senators attend workshops and conferences throughout the state promoting our college and networking, too. Watch for your monthly calendar, which highlights upcoming activities and events on campus.
