Scott Community College

Foundation

Established in 1985 as a nonprofit organization, the Scott Community College (SCC) Foundation is independent from the college and governed by a volunteer board. The college appointed it as the preferred channel for donations, annual giving programs, planned gifts, and other special purpose campaigns.

The Foundation awards scholarships, outfits classrooms and labs with new instructional equipment, and launches special projects. It also supports SCC employees through the Outstanding Full-Time Employee and Outstanding Part-Time Employee Awards.

The Foundation helps students at several locations in the Quad Cities including the Urban Campus, Blong Technology Center, West Davenport Center, and its main Belmont Campus.

In 2023, it awarded approximately $183,000 in scholarships to 155 students. All students are eligible and encouraged to apply. Scholarships are awarded in the Fall and Spring terms. Application deadlines are March 1 and Nov. 1.

The Community

SCC has campuses in Bettendorf and Davenport, Iowa. These two cities make up a major part of the metropolitan area known as the Quad Cities; a bi-state metropolitan area in Iowa and Illinois on the banks of the Mississippi River. The region is home to the Rock Island Arsenal as well as several Fortune 500 companies, including Arconic and Deere & Co.

The area has many parks, and the Mississippi River offers ideal recreational opportunities. More than 380,000 people live and work in the region, and they enjoy a rich cultural environment that includes the Quad City Symphony, Visiting Artist Series, Figge Art Museum, Putnam Museum of Natural History, and Family Museum of Arts and Science.

Each July, Davenport hosts thousands of runners and music enthusiasts from across the U.S. and world who attend the annual Bix Beiderbeck Jazz Festival and the Bix 7 race. The Quad Cities is also home to the John Deere Golf Classic PGA Tournament, Class A Quad Cities River Bandits baseball team, the SPHL Quad City Storm hockey team, and the Arena Football League 2 Quad City Steamwheelers.

The College

SCC has grown from 240 students in 1966 to more than 7,100 today, and offers Arts and Sciences transfer programs, and Career and Technical Education programs. Thousands more students were served through Continuing Education programs.

In addition to the main campus in Bettendorf, students attend classes at the Blong Technology Center, Culinary Arts Center, Urban Campus, and West Davenport Center.

While many students enroll directly out of high school, the average age of students is 26. More than 81% of all students attend classes part-time.
