Paul B. Sharar Foundation
The Paul B. Sharer Foundation supports Clinton Community College (CCC) students, programs, faculty, and staff. It’s 23-member board encourages, receives, and administers all contributions.
Each year the Foundation awards more than 160 scholarships and all students are encouraged to apply. Scholarships are awarded for Fall and Spring terms. Application deadlines are March 1st and November 1st.
The Foundation also provides high school equivalency awards; supports programs including RISE and Phi Theta Kappa Fund-A-Scholar; helps fund facility renovations and equipment upgrades; and supports staff development and continuing education.
The Community
Clinton is a community of about 23,000 residents who are drawn to and enjoy its location on the Mississippi River. The city holds the world-class Bickelhaupt Arboretum and many other recreational facilities including five beautiful parks, swimming pools, beaches along the river, and nearby lakes. It also has many softball diamonds and tennis courts, and a modern baseball park.
Clinton’s public library offers services via two locations, and the fine arts are well-represented through the River City Municipal Band, the Clinton Symphony Orchestra Association, the Clinton Showboat professional theatre, Gateway Contemporary Ballet, and the Clinton Art Association.
The College
The Clinton campus is located in the heart of the city. Founded in 1946 to serve World War II veterans, the campus has since expanded and now serves more than 1,500 students each year.
The campus offers Arts and Sciences transfer programs, and Career and Technical Education programs. In Fiscal 2023, more than 2,900 students were enrolled in credit programs, and thousands more were served through Continuing Education programs.
In addition to the campus, CCC offers programs and classes at the Maquoketa Center, Clinton Career Advancement Center, DeWitt Career Advancement Center, and the Bickelhaupt Arboretum.
While many students enroll directly out of high school, the average age of students is 22. More than 88% of all students attend classes part-time.
CCC Alumni Association
CCC’s Alumni Association is an active organization that celebrates graduates and all they achieve and supports the goals and dreams of current students. Membership is open to all CCC alumni and friends.
The Association hosts many annual events such as Student Leader Luncheon and the Outstanding Awards, which highlight those that give outstanding support to CCC. In addition, members support four scholarships for students ranging from $200 to a full-time Alumni Honor Scholarship.
About 80% of CCC graduates continue to live and work in Iowa, and another 10% in nearby Illinois communities including Fulton, Savanna, Thomson, and Morrison.
Contact the Alumni Association for more information or to join.
