Elementary Education Transfer Major, AA


Campus: Clinton, Muscatine, and Scott Community Colleges

The Elementary Education Associate of Arts degree is designed to provide the first two years of college preparation for students wanting to become elementary education teachers. The transfer major in Elementary Education has been designed to provide a broad education with an emphasis in educational and developmental psychology, children’s literature, diverse learners, technology, math and physical sciences, and liberal arts/humanities. This program is for students interested in transferring to a four-year institution with a major in Elementary Education.

Transfer Institutions: Iowa State University, State University of Iowa, Northern Iowa University, Clarke University, Iowa Wesleyan University, Mount Mercy University, and St. Ambrose University. Some of these institutions may have additional requirements. Please see your advisor for more information.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Elementary Education Transfer Major program, students will be able to:

  1. Differentiate the advantages and disadvantages of a teaching career.
  2. Recognize major philosophies of education.
  3. Identify effective teacher behaviors.
  4. Describe milestones in the history of education.
  5. State the purposes of schools and school choice.
  6. Demonstrate an awareness of the commitment to students and continual professional development of the teaching profession.
  7. Describe the 21st century trends in education, including the Standards Movement.
