Automotive Technology, AAS

Campus: Scott Community College

The Automotive Technology associate degree prepares graduates to secure positions in dealerships or independent garages as a technician or service writer in training, or to advance within the industry. Students completing the degree will work in a paid co-op position, which often results in full-time employment.

Students may begin this program in the spring term with slight modifications to the course sequence.

Graduates from our program are prepared to pass certification exams in all of the following eight areas: Engine Repair, Manual Drive Train and Axles, Brakes, Heating and Air Conditioning, Automatic Transmission/Transaxle, Suspension and Steering, Electrical/Electronic Systems, and Engine Performance.

The Automotive Technology program has achieved certification from National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE).

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Automotive Technology program, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate the ability to complete the “Three C’s”: concern, cause, and correction.
  2. Identify the use of appropriate tools and testing and measurement equipment required to accomplish certain automotive tasks.
  3. Locate and use current reference and service information from accepted automotive publications and resources.
  4. Perform automotive diagnostic and repair tasks in accordance with manufacturer’s recommended procedures and safety precautions as published.
